Buying a Wheelchair?

Our range of Manual wheelchairs can be viewed here, however if you are unsure about your requirements please read on. It might give you an idea of your requirements, or open your mind to the possibilities you have.
This information is a guide to manual wheelchairs; it will not replace the manufacturer’s brochures instead it gives an “at a glance” indication of some of the Clark and Partners manual wheelchair range. After being involved in supplying wheelchairs for over 50 years, you can be confident that we know what we are talking about. As the regions leading supplier of wheelchairs and mobility products, our specialists are well trained and have many years experience prescribing products. If you do not see the product you are looking for please ask as there is a very good chance we stock it. Buying a wheelchair is a purchase that will affect the quality of your life for years to come, so take the time to think through how and where you will use it. This will help you make the right choice.
Completing the assessment form we provide will help you decide what is important to you in the use of your chair, ensuring you get maximum benefit from your purchase. Self-Propelled or Transit (SP/T) Wheelchairs with large rear wheels are called Self Propelled (SP) while wheelchairs with small wheels are called Transit (T). Larger wheels mean the occupant can propel themselves, while small wheels mean the chair is pushed by a carer. Even if the user is not able to self propel they may still decide to buy a self propelled chair as it may help them manoeuvre the chair to face someone talking to them etc. Care must be taken if the user has a heart condition, this person may be safer with a Transit chair. All the following chairs are available in either version unless otherwise stated. Quick Release Wheels (Q/R) Rear wheels which are easily detachable; allowing the chair to fit into a smaller space for storage or carriage also making it lighter to lift. Half Folding Backrest (H/F) Folding the backrest down makes the chair smaller which is particularly useful when carrying in a car. Configurability Wheelchairs that can be adjusted or ordered with options to help clients with specific needs are described as configurable. This means a wider range of conditions, uses and users can be accommodated. Rigid/Folding
Active users often prefer to use a rigid framed chair, meaning the frame of the chair doesn’t fold making it more efficient to propel. Some rigid chairs can fold for example the Quickie Revolution.

These chairs designed to give the very best performance the Kuschall K4 Airlite is a mixture of aluminium and titanium and is one of the lightest configurable chairs available, common with the rest of the Kuschalls it can be highly customised to give the look you want.
The Quickie Ti is made completely from Titanium, the high performance material used in the aircraft industry is very lightweight yet hardwearing. It is very attractive and is only available in natural finish making it stand out from the crowd. Cushions It’s easy to forget the importance of getting the correct surface to sit on. A wheelchair without a cushion is uncomfortable and can be dangerous to the user’s health, in particular leading to the development of pressure problems. Even an inexpensive cushion will have dramatic results and as you go through the range cushions are available which can also improve your posture and seating position. Foam This is similar to the filling you may have in your sofa, it will help increase the comfort of the wheelchair however will not improve posture and has a limited lifespan as it will “bottom out” over time. For occasional users however it offers a very low cost option at £17.00
