Created in the 1920’s by C.C.Crispen, early stairlifts were known as ‘inclinators’, they were initially used by sufferers of polio due to the record number of cases reported during that time.

A STAIRLIFT FIT FOR A KING

Evidence shows that King Henry VIII might have used one of the first stairlifts. After injuring himself jousting the 30 stone King listed in his possessions a chair that was hauled up and down stairs on a block and tackle system by servants at the ancient Whitehall Palace in London.
